SPCP 18th Annual Convention
18th ANNUAL CONVENTION & TRADE SHOW
RENAISSANCE HOTEL, LAS VEGAS ~ MARCH 14 – 16, 2009
SPCP is very excited to be returning to the beautiful Renaissance Hotel, Las Vegas - our highest rated venue ever! I don't think anyone can describe this event better than our very own Convention Coordinator, Debbie Guastella, CPCP...here is what she had to say in the latest SPCP Quarterly...
SPCP: We Don’t Enter the Future; We Create It. The SPCP stands by these very enlightening words, so in keeping with this statement, our 18th Annual Convention & Trade Show is themed “Crystal Ball: A Look Into the Future.” We will return to the Renaissance Hotel & Resort – a boutique hotel by Las Vegas standards, offering style and substance…elegance without pretension. We will once again enjoy and experience the contemporary décor, impeccable service and high-tech amenities in this non-gaming, smoke-free atmosphere. As we look into our “SPCP Crystal Ball”, Convention 2009 will provide the ideal venue to inspire productivity by allowing us to focus on what’s really important – the challenges of the future and our business. As always, Convention will be preceded by our two-day Train the Trainer Program and Bloodborne Pathogens Course and Exam.
This year’s Saturday morning workshop is a great opportunity for everyone in our business. The American Red Cross will present a 3-1/2 hour First Aid Course and Workshop. After attending this course, you will receive a certificate of completion, which is a requirement to be renewed yearly, for most permanent cosmetic technicians in the United States. Even if this is not a local or State requirement for you, it is highly advised by most in our industry to have the education tools taught by the American Red Cross. These tools include information on maintaining a safe, hazard free workplace environment acceptable by both the CDC and OSHA together with guidance on handling client situations that we may encounter. Space will be limited, so sign up for this early. Saturday afternoon will be devoted to Vendor presentations. This format was so well received last year by allowing anyone who chooses to attend both the workshop in the morning and all the vendor presentations in the afternoon. Speaking of Vendors, we are so excited to announce that the Vendor Room will be open Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00. Every year we hear, “We need more time to buy things.” So here is your chance to spend an additional three hours with our suppliers to learn about and purchase those most needed products.
Saturday evening we present our “Masque Crystal Ball.” Amid crystals, candles and grandeur our networking reception will take us back to a time where gowns and tails were the attire and masks were the envy. We encourage everyone to participate in this opulence, twirling to the waltz and donning you most outstanding mask. We will have a Best Mask Contest and the prize will be the piece de resistance. Back by popular demand and because our organization is full of very talented individuals, we will also have Karaoke where everyone can get into the action of fun and singing our hearts out to those favorite tunes. Robin Hays and her dynamite team will return to host the annual Auction so we can all walk away with special treasures. We have a few amazing surprises in store that will enhance our “Masque Crystal Ball”, so be sure to pack that most lavish gown, dazzling mask, and be ready to spend an evening of elegance and entertainment together. A local photographer will be on hand to capture the evening of friends together. By the way - the colors for the Convention are black, silver, and white.
On to our special guest STARS for the weekend, our speakers. We are so excited with this year’s lineup as they take us into the future of our industry. Lesley DeDecker CPCP will share her techniques and tips, presenting an eyeliner procedure with a digital machine. Rose Ann Cloud CPCP will then present a brow procedure using the NeoTat machine. Our special SPCP live video presentations are always so well received since they take us from the initial consultation, through the procedure and to the healed outcome. You won’t want to miss these new and interesting modality choices.
Continuing with this extraordinary group, our very own industry leader and sought after speaker, Mary Jane Haake CPCP will let us know “The Benefits of Saying No”. Not every prospective client is candidate for permanent cosmetics and we need to know when to say NO, whether it is a first time client or a correction procedure. Elizabeth Finch-Howell CPCP, President of the SPCP will discuss exactly what’s inside our pigment bottles.
We are all faced with the challenge on how to set up our business. We are pleased to welcome Gary Radelat CPA, who will address IRS issues and advise us on the best direction to take when setting up our business. We are so honored to have renowned plastic and reconstruction surgeon, Gustavo Colon, MD joining us this year. Dr. Colon travels the world, lecturing on all plastic surgery procedures. For our benefit, he will focus on facial procedures, breast surgery, scar revision and other plastic surgery issues that relate to and affect a permanent cosmetic procedure. Liza Sims CPCP will round out our lineup as she humors us with her antics. We will all get involved with audience participation as we “Stump the Chump” and find solutions to industry related situations. Our afternoons will ignite as always with our Panel of Experts session on both Sunday and Monday. These panels will consist of our doctors, industry leaders and guest speakers, there to answer your every question on any topic.
This year we are taking on another new adventure as we move into the future. The SPCP, our organization of members sharing and giving to one another, will continue this generosity by adopting a local Las Vegas women’s shelter. Karla Kwist, our local liaison, has inquired around the area and this shelter, The Shade Tree, consisting of women and their children, is in dire need of personal care items. Toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, lotion, all the various things that so many of us take for granted every day, are in short supply for this shelter. So in the giving atmosphere of sharing forward we are asking each and every one of our members to bring with them or buy in Las Vegas one of these personal care items. We will have a bin available at the SPCP Registration Desk and once it is filled, it will be delivered to the shelter. I am quite sure it will be overflowing with items, exemplifying our gift, as a Family, of generosity. View the shelter’s wish list at their website -

So, as this year winds down and we look to the future of next year, gaze into your own special “Crystal Ball” of life and make the commitment to you, your business, your industry and your future and plan to attend the 18th Annual Convention & Trade Show 2009. Every day we each face our own personal challenges and obstacles, and yet we still look to the future for brighter and better days. SPCP Convention 2009 is a time for better days as we reunite with our old friends and meet new ones; continue to reach excellence in education, learn about new products and supplies, and embrace the future together as members of the most elite permanent cosmetic organization in the world. So mark your calendars now. Invest in yourself, your career, and the future, and be sure to attend Convention 2009 on March 14-16, 2009 in Las Vegas. I look forward to seeing you there. Guess who I’ll be? The one in the mask!
I also look forward to seeing you there -
Wishing you a safe, healthy, and successful 2009!
