Fall Conference: Beauty, Blues, and Barbecue
Nothing is as characteristically Memphis as Blues & Barbecue under the bright lights of the famous Beale Street, add a little Beauty to that and well, you got yourself one heck of a good SPCP Fall conference! That’s right folks; we’re heading to Memphis, Tennessee this October 1st & 2nd for our Annual Fall Conference.
There are many things that come to mind when I hear the name “Memphis”, and the top thing for me is GRACELAND! Take a tour here and you’ll be able to walk through the Presley mansion, see some of Elvis’ favorite cars and even board his jet. Yes we are here to learn about permanent cosmetics, but it’s also a great time to learn how the King of Rock changed the way the world listens to music!
Memphis has much to offer however besides Graceland. They have a number of museums, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music for lovers of souls, the Sun Studio for you rockers and Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum for a little of both! Beale Street is another can’t miss attraction for you music lovers, during the day you can visit the W.C. Handy House & Museum or the Wither Collection Museum & Gallery. At night is when the clubs come alive, the Blues music and live music fills the 1.8 mile street this is the Music Mecca like no other! Make sure to stop by BB King’s Blue Club, the original Blue Club or the Rum Boogie Café.
If music is your number one thing don’t you worry, there is plenty more to do here! The Memphis Zoo is a ‘don’t miss’ Memphis attraction, with being one of only four U.S. zoos that host giant pandas! Meet Ya Ya and Le Le inside this China exhibit. You can also take a peaceful afternoon to check out the Memphis Botanic Gardens or take a ride on a riverboat. You can also head over to the Sharpe Planetarium if you need a little peace and stars. Memphis has your shopping fix too if that is what you are in search for! It comes is forms of malls, antique shops, record stores, museum gift shops and historic department stores selling Memphis memorabilia to mojo (straight from Memphis I swear!) Keep an eye out for the Beale Street Flippers, a group of street performers who will blow you away with their acrobatic prowess. Also check out the brass notes under your fee, also known as Memphis’ walk of fame. You can also check out Ballet Memphis, a professional ballet company or the Memphis Opera if you are looking for some classical entertainment.
We’ve got a rockin’ lineup of topics that year that is sure to be music to your ears! We will hear from a local dermatologist about the Fitzpatrick skin types and how it affects permanent cosmetics as well as other related skin issues. Another issue many of us deal with every day is the aches and pains of performing permanent cosmetics, to help with this we will be learning the science of Ergonomics and how it can help you. By popular demand we will be hitting two of the industry staple procedures, lip procedures and tips on how to master this technique as well as creating the perfect brow. As always, Train the Trainer will be offered and the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard class is always included. The CPCP exam will be offered as well. Make sure to look out for Fall Conference program which will be out shortly for more detailed information as well as our complete list of topics and speakers!
